The name Sumer, pronounced "Su-Mer", is inspired by one of the world's earliest centers of organized civilization, engineering, trade, and innovation. It reflects our belief that successful projects are built on the ability to bring people, expertise, and capabilities together.
Sumer Consulting Ltd. was founded in May 2025 by engineering professionals
who saw an opportunity to bring together international engineering capability.
Based in Calgary, Alberta, Sumer was created to help bridge Korean engineering experience
together with the knowledge of Canadian project execution, coordination, and field requirements.

who know what it takes to carry them through to completion.
Sumer Consulting was formed around professionals who have shared experience on successful major projects. Each brings deep expertise from their respective disciplines, combining that experience and lessons learned into a team with a shared DNA of successful project execution.
On a major refinery complex in Mexico, the work involved valued colleagues across different stages, including some who are now with Sumer or Pields Engineering. My responsibilities extended across brownfield and greenfield facilities and long-distance pipelines through engineering, construction coordination, and commissioning, and later through an extended ICC arbitration process. This provided valuable insight into EPC issues, the relationship between schedule and TIC, and the importance of decisions made during Project Initiation.
On a major Canadian oil sands mining project, the project likewise brought together colleagues across different stages, including some who continue with Sumer or Pields Engineering today. My responsibilities extended from DBM Transition and FEED through engineering, modularization, construction, and commissioning, serving as Master Engineering Manager and Deputy Site Manager. The team recovered significant schedule delay during engineering, achieved key on-spec milestones, and the project was recognized by ENR in 2019.
These shared experiences taught us not only how successful projects are executed, but also how to recognize early the risks and execution paths that should be avoided or corrected. Many project outcomes are shaped during the early stages - Concept Selection, Pre-DBM, and DBM/Pre-FEED. Sumer therefore believes that having the right experienced people involved from Project Initiation is an important foundation for successful execution.
That experience also extends into our Partner Network, including Pields Engineering. Building on lessons learned through major project execution, we have also partnered with SB SUNBO for module fabrication and Hyosung Canada Inc. for rotating equipment, creating a practical Global Project Execution Network.
